Link FC | The Coaching Standard

LINK FC / COACHES HUB
The Coaching Standard
Clear standards. Confident coaches. Better sessions.
Develop players technically, physically, psychologically and socially — every time we train.

Development Over Hype. Do More.
At Link Football Coaching, every training session is an opportunity to improve. We create an environment where players feel confident, challenged and supported, whatever their age or ability.
We don't expect perfection. We expect effort, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
THE LINK FC THREE STEPS TO IMPROVEMENT
FOCUS — CHALLENGE — REPEAT
01 / Focus
Concentrate fully on the skill you're developing. Know what you're trying to improve and give it your attention.
02 / Challenge
Practise at a speed and difficulty that stretches your ability. Don't be afraid of mistakes. Build up the pace while staying safe and working on the skill.
03 / Repeat
Practise repeatedly, make small corrections and gradually improve. Notice what happened, adjust and go again.
Purposeful repetition means practising with attention and feedback, rather than repeating the same error without thinking. Over time, skills can become more reliable and increasingly automatic, leaving more attention for scanning, decisions and teammates. Vary the challenge and use opponents so the skill transfers into games.

The Link FC 60-Minute Session Framework
Before training: Arrive at least 15 minutes early, check the area and equipment, and have the first activity ready.
- 0–10 minutes: Ball mastery. Maximise touches, movement, turns and changes of direction.
- 10–25 minutes: Technical development. Introduce one clear focus such as passing, receiving, dribbling or finishing.
- 25–40 minutes: Skill under pressure. Add opponents, decisions and realistic challenges.
- 40–55 minutes: Small-sided games. Let players apply what they've learned with minimal stoppages.
- 55–60 minutes: Review. Ask what players learned, praise effort and reinforce the key point.
This is a starting framework. Adapt the activity and challenge to players' age, ability and needs while maintaining a safe and positive environment.
Three Golden Rules
- No queues: Minimise waiting and maximise involvement.
- Let them play: Keep explanations short and avoid unnecessary interruptions.
- Coach the individual: Encourage and challenge every player.

The Four Pillars of Link FC Player Development
Inspired by The FA's Four Corner Model, our coaching supports the whole player. The four areas work together in every well-designed practice:
- Football skills and understanding (technical/tactical): control, passing, dribbling, finishing, positioning and decisions.
- Movement (physical): balance, coordination, agility and appropriate physical development.
- Confidence and mindset (psychological): resilience, focus, problem-solving and trying new things.
- Teamwork and respect (social): communication, inclusion, friendships and responsibility.
Example: in a 3v3 game, players practise football techniques, move and change direction, solve problems and communicate with teammates — all at once.
The Link FC Coaching Method
- PLAN: Choose one clear learning objective and prepare your area and equipment.
- ENGAGE: Keep the ball rolling, explanations short and everyone involved.
- CHALLENGE: Add decisions, opponents and game-like situations.
- SUPPORT: Encourage effort, allow mistakes and adapt to individual needs.
- REVIEW: Ask players what they learned and reflect on what to improve next time.
These are Link FC's own practical guidelines, informed by England Football Learning resources; they are not an FA accreditation or a substitute for recognised qualifications, safeguarding or first-aid training.

Our Promise
At Link FC, development is about more than goals, results or trophies. We value effort, improvement, confidence, teamwork and a genuine love of football.
Every player matters. Every session matters. Development over hype.
England Football Learning: ideas to use on the pitch
These practical applications are written in Link FC's own words.
- EE Playmaker: Welcome everyone, communicate clearly and keep football positive, safe and enjoyable. Use STEP — Space, Task, Equipment and People — to adapt an activity.
- Introduction to Coaching Football: Plan around the players in front of you. Give a short explanation and demonstration, then observe, encourage and adjust so everyone can take part and learn.
- UEFA C: Develop your understanding of your players, build practices around their needs and reflect on how your coaching helps them improve.
Explore EE Playmaker and the official course directory for Introduction to Coaching Football and UEFA C. Check current eligibility and requirements with England Football Learning.
For younger coaches
Agree your role with the lead coach before training. Start by delivering a short activity with an appropriate adult coach supervising and supporting you. Know who to approach for a welfare concern or injury and where the emergency plan is kept. Ask for help whenever you are unsure.
The Link FC Coach Development Pathway
Foundation Coach
Learn to prepare equipment, explain a simple activity and deliver it under appropriate supervision. Next step: plan a short activity with your mentor, deliver it and discuss one improvement.
Developing Coach
Improve session delivery, useful feedback and individual player development. Next step: adapt one practice for different needs and review the effect with your lead coach.
Lead Coach
Plan programmes, mentor younger coaches and evaluate development over time. Next step: support another coach to plan, deliver and review a session.
These are internal Link FC development stages, not official FA qualifications. A stage does not replace the qualifications, checks, supervision or training required for a coaching role.
Your reusable 60-minute session planner
Copy this blank planner into your notes or a document for each session. Complete the activity cards before training and share the plan with your lead coach. This page does not save personal session notes.
